The fab four from Sheffield have been holed up in the studio in Joshua Tree, CA and the UK with Josh Homme for months, recording their upcoming record. Now news of a secret show in New Zealand has already hit the net, as well as the band’s plan to surprise the lucky fans with the debut of their new album material.
The gig is being held at an unknown venue in Wellington, NZ on January 13th and will now serve as both a band warm up for the Big Day Out Festival 3 days later and the world’s first taste of Alex Turner’s new tunes. Fans are particularly eager to hear what influence, if any, Turner’s current flame, TV presenter Alexa Chung, will have on the Arctic Monkeys’ new sound. His last big hit, “Flourescent Adolescent,” was co-written by then-girlfriend Johanna Bennett.
There’s still no word on the album’s title or any other details, but methinks it’s just around the corner.
