Santogold Gets Sued Over Name, Changes it to Santigold

Last summer singer Santogold, née Santi White, was sued by Santo Rigatuso, claiming she infringed on his image and stage name Santo Gold. Well the matter has been tangled up in the courts for some time and it looks like the artist formerly known as Santogold has found a quick fix: She changed her name to Santigold.

“Change the graffiti on the bathroom wall, get your tattoo fixed, get your t-shirt airbrushed and change the name on your year end list- Santogold is now Santigold,” her press release reads. “She’s not telling you why, that’s just how it is. No unpronounceable symbol, no numbers where they shouldn’t be, no random capitalization, just plain ass Santigold so remember that.”

In the lawsuit, Rigatuso also claimed that White had appropriated his image by having her backup dancers wear sunglasses on stage, which he is known to do as well. There’s no word yet from the Santigold camp if she’s going to make her dancers switch to eyeglasses now to further settle the suit.
