Jarvis Cocker Drops Free LP of Soundscapes

Dr. Jarvis Cocker, a man famous for singing about “Common People,” has now turned his attention to the recorded sounds of the general public. Drowned in Sound reports that the former Pulp singer released a free LP today, which is a collection of field recordings in various locations. In partnership with the National Trust, Cocker compiled The National Trust: The Album, a so-called “Holiday for the Ears” that he ensures is “not really meant to be listened to intently, like a piece of music, but more as something to have on in the background to aid relaxation or contemplation.”

Included in the 13-track set are the non-melodious tones of stairs creaking, clocks, gardeners at work, waves lapping against the shore, children playing, and other noises from National Trust locations in England.
