Listen: Beck and Devendra Banhart – “Life During Wartime”

August 5, 2010

For the theme song to his latest dark comedy, writer-director Todd Solondz (Happiness, Storytelling, Welcome to the Dollhouse) enlisted the help of collaborator du jour Beck and his pal Devendra Banhart. Although the song, “Life During Wartime,” is first performed in the film by actress Shirley Henderson as the lead character Joy — according to a Playlist report last fall — Beck and Banhart provide a pro singer-songwriter rendition for the closing credits, as well. Banhart’s 2005 Cripple Crow track “Heard Somebody Say” also made the soundtrack.

Solondz himself wrote the lyrics and Marc Shaiman composed the music to the BanBeck-recorded Life During Wartime theme, which hit YouTube early last month and is now streaming below (thanks to 90 lb. Wuss). Enjoy:
