Carissa’s Wierd Record First New Songs in Seven Years

Last year, the excellent Seattle indie sad-core outfit Carissa’s Wierd reunited for a one-off concert in their hometown to celebrate the release of a new retrospective compilation, They’ll Only Miss You When You Leave: Songs 1996-2003, via Hardly Art. That release — complete with remastered cuts of “Die” and “The Color That Your Eyes Changed With the Color of Your Hair” — recruited a slew of new listeners while leaving longtime fans hungry for more material. Enter “Meredith & Iris,” a new Mat Brooke (Grand Archives, Band of Horses) and Jenn Ghetto-led track that would fit seamlessly among their venerable oeuvre, despite being recorded seven years since their last studio session.

In many ways (namely, the vocal harmonies, melody, and arrangement), this B-side to fellow new cut “Tucson” recalls the former track mentioned above. But, as Reverb notes (via our pal Matt at LAHB), Brooke’s voice has notably matured a bit from the whispery early days of CW. As for a full-length and/or tour, a press release teases: “It is too soon to say whether or not Carissa’s Wierd is ‘back,’ but for the time being, we can certainly say that they are here.” Stream/download their latest heartbreaking tune here or below:
