Several Shades of Why, J Mascis’ latest solo album, remains one of my favorite singer-songwriter records of 2011, and now Sub Pop are giving us a little year-end reminder about the set by releasing a bonus track that only appeared on the LP’s Japanese edition. The understated acoustic tune, “I’ve Been Thinking,” will arrive on a 7” single as the B-side to Mascis’ cover of Edie Brickell’s “Circle,” which we’ve seen him perform live on a few occasions since the album dropped in March.
