Video: Rufus Wainwright’s Black Cab Session

After all his ambitious work in opera, musical theater, and Shakespearean sonnets, there’s something refreshing about Rufus Wainwright returning to his troubadour roots, strumming an acoustic humbly in the back of a London cab. Wainwright’s new Mark Ronson-produced effort, Out of the Game, might be a so-called “pop record,” but album cut “Jericho” sounds brilliant here stripped down as a heartfelt acoustic tune — a kind of nod to his earlier records with a triumphant, show-stopping finish that brings us closer to the feel of recent output a bit.
