CBGB Film to Star Malin Akerman, Alan Rickman

The story behind the famed New York rock club CBGB is getting the big-screen, high-profile film treatment thanks to Bottle Shock director Randall Miller. A project like this begs two questions around here: A) Who will play the iconic venue’s even more iconic stars in their early years? B) The soundtrack will be amazing, right? We shall see on the latter issue (production  commences this summer), but we now know the actors set to play two big roles in the flick. British actor Alan Rickman will portray the late CBGB owner Hilly Kristal while Swedish–Canadian actress Malin Akerman just landed a spot playing Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry. What’s more, there’s another Harry Potter connection in addition the former Professor Snape’s lead role, as Variety reports as well that Rupert Grint has signed on to portray Cheetah Chrome, aka Gene O’Connor of the Dead Boys.

While we can’t vouch for Grint’s ability in the music department, there is evidence that Akerman has the rock vocal chops necessary for such a project. Below, preview her frontwoman skills leading the band Petalstones:
