Patti Smith has paid tribute through music and poetry to Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and a number of late legends over the years. Now comes her latest musical eulogy, “This Is The Girl,” in honor of another unforgettably-voiced singer whose life was cut tragically short at just 27: Amy Winehouse. “The little song for Amy just blossomed in the studio,” Smith said when announcing her new LP. Banga arrives less than a year since Winehouse’s passing in a few weeks, but last Sunday she unveiled the tribute for a mother-daughter concert at New York City’s City Winery.
