Two recordings of Lykke Li’s new “Silver Springs” cover for the Fleetwood Mac tribute record Just Tell Me That You Want Me have been making the rounds, and it’s a tough call which one impresses most. While the studio version thrives on the kind of moody, 1960s echo chamber-topped atmosphere we’re used to hearing from Li, a live acoustic take for French radio last month feels more intimate, personal and perhaps even a bit more inspired. Either way, Stevie Nicks must feel like she’s gotten her due this month, as Li’s the first person we’ve heard so far to channel Nicks’ heartfelt performances without underwhelming results (though Antony Hegarty’s “Landslide” has yet to surface in official form and there’s little doubt here it’ll be a stunner).
