Phosphorescent Covers Randy Newman

Phosphorescent Randy Newman CoverGet Phosphorescent’s Matthew Houck in a space with good acoustics, hand him a guitar and remarkable covers seem bound to happen. We’ve heard him pay homage to the greats in this type of live setting or at the studio (most notably on a 2009 set of Willie Nelson covers) before, each time finding the right amount of reverence within his own nuanced contribution to the tune. Earlier this month in Portland, KEXP caught a new one on tape: Randy Newman deep cut “Days of Heaven,” performed live from a sunny room at Pickathon. Check out the footage above.
