Anja Plaschg’s Austrian accent never brought Nico to mind before, but given this faithful performance of “I’ll Be Your Mirror,” the similarity cannot be unheard. This recording is from a rehearsal for Velvet Underground Revisited, a tribute concert last year that featured Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood, Air’s Nicolas Godin, Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker, Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffey. (As you might recall, Feist led an impressive rendition of “Femme Fatale” for the Paris event.) We’ve long admired Plaschg’s evocative original material as Soap&Skin, but it’d be remiss not to give such reverent cover work its due as well. Hear the one-off supergroup channel 1967 above.
