Stream: St. Vincent & David Byrne’s LP, Love This Giant

St. Vincent David Byrne Love This GiantWe’ve heard its opening two songs, “Who” and “Weekend In the Dust,” but now comes proof that David Byrne and St. Vincent’s Love This Giant is in no way front-loaded. If anything, this thing gets better and more confident as tracks toggle between Byrne’s trademark dynamic vocal approach and the metallic sheen of Annie Clark’s multi-tracked voice. That switching of voices — artistically and otherwise — to the forefront is so overt, in fact, they might seem a discordant match. But it really works, perhaps because the pair seem to revel in their respective strengths or, more likely, it’s the amped-up horn/rhythm section (Antibalas and the Dap-Kings) that helped this experiment find such cohesive results.

Without further ado, stream all 12 cuts off Love This Giant over at NPR and check out the new video for “Who” above.

Byrne and Clark are planning to take the show on the road, too, complete with brass section this fall. Below, watch an interview where they discuss plans for adapting the set to the stage and how they conceived that compelling photoshopped album cover:
