“Wakin’ on a Pretty Day” is the opening/near-title track off Kurt Vile’s new record, Wakin’ on a Pretty Daze. In a confident next step following 2011’s Smoke Ring For My Halo, Vile’s voice is dressed with less echo this round, finding an intimate place upfront in the mix against the cut’s acoustic thrum and sunny psych-rock leads. Not unlike takes on the latest set from Vile hero Neil Young, this track keeps jamming for nearly 10 minutes.
