Olivia Gavranich — one of the artists to win Bon Iver’s 2012 stems project — has a project all her own earning praise this year. As St. South, the Western Australian songwriter released a covers EP late last year and, just last week, an original cut called “Slacks.” Folded neatly within its sparse, laid-back beat and a whirr of percussive flourishes strewn between the verses, Gavranich coos through a deceptively upbeat-sounding kiss-off, summing up the damage with each terse refrain: “I’m not yours, I’m mine.” Here’s hoping a full set is on the way.
