Ed Askew & Sharon Van Etten Collaborate

Ed Askew Sharon Van EttenIn the wake of that overlooked Sharon Van Etten cover tune the other day, a new song and collaboration from SVE have come to light. On the team-up front, outsider songwriter/visual artist Ed Askew has a new set due this month via Tin Angel Records. Titled For the World, the album features Van Etten singing on three tracks along with turns from a number of notable guests (Mary Lattimore, the Black Swans’ Tyler Evans, Marc Ribot, and more). Van Etten tells Drowned in Sound she picked up Askew’s lost 1984 LP, Imperfection, on a whim at a record shop, adding: “It changed my life. So beautiful, innocent, and fragile.” Soon enough she caught a live set opening for Bill Callahan, met his bandmates, and joined them in the studio. Hear her lend vocals to the title track’s outro refrain above, while a performance clip of album cut “Blue Eyed Baby” with Diane Cluck is below. Also, Van Etten performs a new song, “Tarifa,” live in the woods at Pickathon:
