Damien Jurado will return to Maraqopa in January, literally with a new track called “Return to Maraqopa” and in a broader sense on the full-length sequel to that 2012 collaboration with producer/musician Richard Swift. As he explains in the album trailer, Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Son is a concept record, of sorts, about a man “who disappears on a search for himself and never goes home.” On Maraqopa, the pair explored an expansive sonic backdrop for Jurado’s intimate songs, and now — per the preview clips — they’ve pushed the approach deeper into dub, psych-rock, and other abstract territory. They kept searching, if you will. Check out the teaser reel, which includes a glimpse at new tunes and making-of footage from the studio, above. The LP is due on January 21st via Secretly Canadian.
