826 Valencia — the national youth writing nonprofit co-founded in San Francisco by Dave Eggers — can lay claim to a host of talented supporters. In just one example among many, remember when Fiona Apple joined Jon Brion and the Punch Brothers to co-write a track with kids from the organization’s L.A. chapter? They made a great tune for an even better cause. This year there’s a new benefit set for 826 Valencia, featuring Devon Reed-penned tracks performed by Marissa Nadler, Bowerbirds, Horse Feathers, and many more. Mark Kozelek shared his contribution this week: “I Know,” a hypnotic, introspective and promising glimpse at Reed & Co.’s You Be My Heart.
