Scorsese to Direct Frank Sinatra Biopic

Martin Scorsese has directed some of the best music documentaries over the years, including The Last Waltz, No Direction Home: Bob Dylan, and last year’s Rolling Stones concert film Shine a Light. We learned today that not only is the famous director in post-production on a George Harrison documentary due out next year, but Variety’s Tatiana Seigel reports that Scorsese has officially signed on to helm Sinatra, a Frank Sinatra biopic authorized by his estate.

It apparently took years to negotiate the rights to Sinatra from the Sinatra estate and his former record company, UMG, but the deal has now been finalized and Phil Alden Robinson, the writer behind Sneakers and Field of Dreams will be drafting the screenplay.

Who do you think will play Ol’ Blue Eyes? If anyone spots Scorsese buddy Leonardo DiCaprio taking vocal lessons, he must be stopped. Maybe Jamie Foxx is available.
