In addition to manning the boards on The Puppeteers, the debut solo LP from San Francisco’s Chloe Roth, aka Chloe Makes Music, producer/Morning Benders frontman Chris Chu lent his instrumental and vocal talents to the 6-day project. Enlisting a lead singer from one of this year’s biggest breakout indie bands is a fun way to attract fresh ears to a young artist, sure, but if their effortless twee chemistry on duet “The Duel” is any indication, Roth’s incoming record should avoid any name-dropping collaboration labels nicely.
Folk-pop duos (Jenny and Johnny, She & Him, et al.) are a popular trend these days, so standing out is no easy feat. Chu and Roth’s “The Duel,” however, holds its own against other charismatic efforts by their boy-girl contemporaries. Download the track over at the Bay Bridged and/or stream it below:
