Lisa Hannigan Preps New Solo Album, Covers Air

Back in 2008, Lisa Hannigan followed up a surprise split with longtime collaborator Damien Rice by setting out as a solo artist with a debut LP in tow. Given the circumstances of the pair’s estrangement, Sea Sew was refreshingly devoid of bitterness, a hopeful set of gorgeous tunes with a touch of Jeff Buckley-esque “Teeth.” Years of relentless touring, a Depeche Mode cover, and a few tribute shows later, Hannigan is hard at work on the follow-up.

As chronicled on her website, Hannigan and her band have begun sessions for LP2 in her native Ireland, providing videos, photos, and thoughts on the process “aboard the internet as the record takes shape.” Meanwhile, the Dermot O’Leary Show has released a double-disc compilation of “Saturday Sessions” from the BBC Radio show, including Hannigan’s take on “Playground Love” by Air. Watch behind-the-scenes footage from recent studio sessions here and stream the Air cover below.
