Kathleen Hanna Documentary in the Works

Iconic punk/riot grrrl singer Kathleen Hanna is set to finally get her due with a new documentary in the works, currently dubbed The Kathleen Hanna Project a.k.a Who Told You Christmas Wasn’t Cool?. Prefix reports, however, that while director Sini Anderson hopes to finish the film in time for next fall’s festival circuit, more money needs to be raised in order to ensure the production is completed by the summer.

Enter the Bikini Kill single-citing benefit “Rah! Rah! Replica,” a concert at Brooklyn’s Knitting Factory on December 11 to raise cash/record footage for the project, where a host of musicians who either influenced Hanna or carried on her legacy will play cover songs from her oeuvre. The lineup includes appearances by Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon and her daughter Coco Gordon Moore’s band She Murders, Chairlift’s Caroline Polachek, Toshi Reagon, MEN (featuring Hanna’s Le Tigre bandmates), Kaia Wilson, Hanna herself, and many more.

Keep an eye on their Facebook page for info on the ongoing documentary project. You can buy tickets and check out more details about the benefit show here.
