Boyzone Member Dies, New Moon OST Leaks, & The Boss Crowd Surfs

Lots of random news hit the internet this weekend, so let’s roundup a few bits that are sure to dominate the news beast tomorrow morning and beyond.

Stephen Gately, of the hugely successful pop group Boyzone, died on Saturday while on vacation in Mallorca, NY Times reports. The cause of Gately’s death is still unknown at this time, but police say there are “no signs of suspicious circumstances.” Gately was only 33 years old. For more on this sad story go here.

When the tracklist to the New Moon soundtrack dropped a few weeks back, Stereogum got their commenters riled up with a “Best Album of 2009?” headline. Well the full OST has leaked this weekend (on YouTube and elsewhere) and let’s just say that it exceeds expectations. Check out Thom Yorke’s “Hearing Damage” here, Bon Iver & St. Vincent’s “Rosyln” here, or the whole thing here.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band played the entire Born in the U.S.A. album and The Boss crowd surfed at the final Giants Stadium concert before its demolition. “It truly looked like the crowd was going to drop him,” RS’s Andy Greene said of Springsteen’s spontaneous leap into the crowd, “but not only did he continue singing while flat on his back, he kept signaling to the band to elongate the songs outro while he made the slow journey back on the hands of hundreds of fans.” For a full review of this epic show go thataway.
