Coldplay´s Guy Berryman & Co Prep Apparatjik Single

Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman, Mew’s Jonas Bjerre, and A-Ha’s Magne Furuholmen have only tested the waters for their new group Apparatjik thus far, officially releasing only one song (“Ferreting” on the soundtrack to Bruce Parry’s BBC show Amazon), launching a cryptic site adorned with abstract photography, videos, and random WTFery, plus dropping a few intriguing instrumentals on YouTube, Vimeo, and elsewhere (check out “Frozen Fingers” here, or “Flum” thataway).

According to fansite Coldplaying.com, however, Apparatjik are finally prepping their forthcoming debut album and the first single drops a week from today. What’s more, Kensaltown Records, presumably the label handling the band’s upcoming releases, sent out a free download of the single, “Electric Eye,” to fans, so we finally have a taste of what’s on the way from Berryman and company (with vocals!).

In a funny twist, Apparatjik have been so cryptic about the project that they’ve never even revealed whether Berryman, Bjerre, or Furuholmen have taken on vocal duties, and a consensus hasn’t yet been reached on the singer’s identity from their first single. Actually, the band are even stoking the debate a bit, tweeting “Have you guessed the vocal chords yet?” about their latest MP3 teaser.

Place your bets: head on over to Coldplaying or click here for a 60-second snippet of “Electric Eye.” (We’re guessing it’s Berryman.)

**Update: Apparatjik have made “Electric Eye” available as a free download here.
