Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo Picks His Top 3 Albums of the Decade

Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo sat down this week with WFNX’s Ryan Stewart to talk about the band’s recent split with Geffen Records, his favorite Sonic Youth album of the aughts (The Eternal), and his picks for the top three albums of the decade.

Ensuring that his list spans the entire ten years, Ranaldo chose, as he says, “[o]ne from early, one from the middle, and one from recently.” Here are his top three:

1) Bob Dylan – Love and Theft

2) Cat Power – You Are Free

3) Bill Callahan – Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle

For more from Ranaldo on how he first bought the Dylan record on 9/11, Cat Power’s You Are Free “could go up with [Leonard Cohen’s] Songs of Love and Hate or [Joni Mitchell’s] Blue,” and other explanations for these choices, go here.
