Video: LCD Soundsystem on Colbert

LCD Soundsystem ColbertBefore James Murphy retires LCD Soundsystem in NYC this April, there’s one more way he can ensure that they’re going out on top: The Colbert Bump. Murphy and Co. stopped by Comedy Central tonight for their “last appearance on television,” and Stephen Colbert was hilariously perplexed: “But you didn’t start until you were in your 30s, right? You’re not like [Justin] Bieber at 41,” he joked. “Though that is some lovely hair.”

After teasing Murphy on the choice to focus on his label, DFA Records (“You’re gonna be The Man. You’re going to say to young rockers, ‘You know what? I don’t hear a single. Let’s put a reggaeton beat on that and add some Auto-Tune. We’ll get Shaggy to sing with you.’”), he dropped the big punchline/U2 dis: “There are only three ways to end your career as a rocker: overdose, overstay your welcome, or write Spider-Man: The Musical.

Fun stuff, but then the bittersweet finale arrived in the form of LCD’s last-ever TV performance, This Is Happening single “I Can Change.” Watch the interview and musical bit below.
