Bonnie “Prince” Billy Joins Pickathon, Covers Graham Nash

Poor, Pickathon 2010. Yesterday had to be the worst day to get press about a smaller summer music festival, what with Bonnaroo’s 24-hour lineup announcement juggernaut and all. Either way, the initial lineup to the Portland, Oregon indie-roots fest has hit the internets (via Paste), and our favorite bearded Kentuckian (sorry, Yim Yames) tops the list.

Hmmm… Perhaps he’ll play that upcoming cover of Graham Nash’s “Simple Man” at the Northwest hoedown fest.

Bonnie “Prince” Billy will be backed by The Cairo Band for two Pickathon performances (Saturday and Sunday, Aug.6-8), sharing the festival stage with notable acts including, Billy Joe Shaver, Jill Andrews (formerly of the Everybodyfields), The Cave Singers, Langhorne Slim, Elliott Brood, and many more. Check out the full lineup here.

Billy, aka Will Oldham, also made headlines recently for his contribution to the forthcoming tribute comp Be Yourself: A Tribute to Graham Nash’s Songs for Beginners, a cover album of Nash’s 1971 classic record, including new recordings by by Billy, Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold, Brendan Benson, Nash’s daughter Nile, Johnathan Rice, Alela Diane, Port O’Brien, and many more.

Proceeds from the album, which is due out on May 25 via Grassroots, will benefit Camp Winnarainbow, a performance art camp in Northern California. Check out the full track list here.
