The Young Rascals Reunite After 40 Years

It’s been 40 years since Rock and Roll Hall of Famers the Rascals, aka the Young Rascals, disbanded, but the original lineup has reunited for at least one performance, thanks in no small part to E Street Band guitarist/Sopranos star Steven Van Zandt. According to a statement by Shore Fire Press, singer Eddie Brigati, guitarist Gene Cornish, keyboardist Felix Cavaliere, and drummer Dino Danelli will perform for the first time in 4 decades this weekend at a benefit concert for the Kristen Ann Carr Fund at Robert DeNiro’s Tribeca Grill restaurant in New York City.

“I speak on behalf of the band when I say all the money offers in the world could not entice the Rascals to reunite,” Cornish said, “but four phone calls from Stevie and without hesitation we enthusiastically and immediately agreed to both support this wonderful cause and honor Stevie and [his wife] Maureen.”

The Kristen Carr Fund is named after the daughter of Bruce Springsteen manager Barbara Carr and music writer Dave Marsh, who passed away from Sarcoma in 1993. The fund benefits the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

So does this concert mark the beginning of a larger comeback for the legendary rock quartet? “Rehearsals have been incredible,” Van Zandt said, “and of course my hope is they can stay together and finally show the world why they are one of Rock and Roll history’s greatest bands.”
