Natalie Maines Sued For Defamation

Detective Natalie Maines, who moonlights as a singer for the Dixie Chicks, wasn’t happy with the conviction of 3 men in a 1993 triple murder, so she decided to accuse one of the victim’s stepfathers.

Maines and the other Dixie Chicks participated in a rally in Little Rock, Arkansas last year, where they made statements claiming new DNA evidence implicated Terry Hobbes, stepfather to one of the 3 slain 8-year-old boys. She also posted a note on the band’s website, discussing the supposed new evidence in the case.

AP reports (via Yahoo!) the lawsuit claims the accusations are false and “seeks compensatory and punitive damages. Hobbs claims he suffered loss of income, injury to his reputation and emotional distress.”

Are the Dixie Chicks somehow testing DNA and cracking cases? They may look like your everyday recording artists, but they’re really undercover agents. Look out, Phil Spector!
