Oscar Nominations: Springsteen Snubbed, M.I.A. Gets the Nod

After Bruce Springsteen’s “The Wrestler” won the Golden Globe for Best Song, it seemed as though an Oscar nomination was a certainty, but this morning the nominees were announced and “The Wrestler” is surprisingly absent.

On the other hand, M.I.A., who was not nominated for a Golden Globe, was nominated with A.R. Rahman for their song “O… Saya” from Slumdog Millionaire. The only other film nominated for Best Song (Slumdog has two nods) was Peter Gabriel’s song from WALL-E, “Down To Earth.”

As previously reported, M.I.A. is currently pregnant and due to give birth on the day of the Grammys, where she is nominated for Record of the Year for “Paper Planes.”
