Johnny Depp Replaces Narrator in Doors Documentary

When Tom DiCillo’s The Doors documentary When You’re Strange premiered at Sundance recently, critics loved it, but were unhappy with DiCillo’s narration of his own film. The Playlist reports that the narration was deemed too mellow to accompany the unusual story of one of rock’s most cryptic acts. Enter Johnny Depp.

Deadline Hollywood reports that Johnny Depp has signed on to narrate the documentary, which features almost entirely never-before-seen footage and covers the entire 4.5-year life span of The Doors.

When You’re Strange will mark the 3rd time Depp has lent his voice to a documentary. Last year, he narrated the Hunter S. Thompson documentary Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson and he also narrated a 1999 Discovery Channel show called Top Secret, which examined international intelligence agencies.
