Kanye West’s Thom Yorke Snub Story Cut from VH1 Storytellers

When Kanye West filmed VH1 Storytellers two weeks ago, he told an interesting story about getting snubbed by Radiohead’s Thom Yorke at the Grammys. TwentyFourBit was one of the only sources to report the story and many people were skeptical of its validity. Well, Reuters reports today that Yorke’s dissing West was not only true, but they’ve left it on the cutting room floor for the television broadcast of the show, along with some other edgier bits from the filming.

“A lot of the stories that Kanye told went long,” executive producer Bill Flanagan said. “I tried to get to the essence of his comments [and] eliminate any ‘gotcha’ moments.”

One of those “gotcha” moments included West’s story about approaching Thom Yorke at the Grammys. He said, “Hi, my name is Kanye. I’m a musician. I’m a fan of yours,” and Yorke just walked away without replying (some sources report that Yorke said, “Yeah, I’ve heard of you,” and then walked away). Kanye said that he was hurt by Yorke’s indifference to meeting him because he is a big fan of Radiohead. “So when he performed at the Grammys, I sat the f—- down,” West said.

Other off-the-cuff moments from the show that have been edited out include West asking the crowd, “Can’t we give Chris [Brown] a break? … I know I make mistakes in life,” and “O.J. Simpson, amazing. Is he not? What he did, when he did, what he did. Was he not amazing though?”
