Jónsi to Score We Bought a Zoo, Directed by Cameron Crowe

Given that it’s hard to recall a Sigur Rós-soundtracked moment in film that wasn’t perfect (the Jaguar Shark closing scene in The Life Aquatic and last year’s 127 Hours rescue sequence, etc.), writer/director Cameron Crowe has made a wise addition to his forthcoming film, We Bought A Zoo: Jónsi. The Playlist reports that the Sigur Rós frontman and solo artist will score the Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson-starring flick about a single father who moves his family to an animal sanctuary following the death of his wife.

This isn’t the first time Crowe has used music from the Sigur Rós singer, as Jónsi and co. licensed three songs for Vanilla Sky in 2001. At that time, the director praised the Iceland band for their music’s cinematic quality, adding, “Play Sigur Rós yourself. In every sound and song, they will reach deep into your soul. Sigur Rós is some of the best filmmaking you’ll ever hear.”

As previously reported, Crowe has said he’s “going by the Scorsese grid,” in reference to taking on a Pearl Jam documentary and dramatic feature simultaneously. If any Crowe fans reading this happen to be unfamiliar with Jónsi’s solo work, I’d encourage you to watch one of our favorite live videos of last year below:
