Ryan Adams Recording New Solo Albums, Preps “Blackhole” and “III/IV”

The moment in which I officially lost track of all the new Ryan Adams albums being prepped for distribution, remixed, or recorded as of this morning was a thing of beauty as a constant flurry of activity from one of my favorite living singer-songwriters is something I grew accustomed to in the 00s and simply cannot live (happily) without. Fortunately, Adams has provided plenty of details via social networking (Facebook, these days) — as he’s been wont to do for years — so we can now break down a handful of likely releases to anticipate in coming months.

In addition to prepping a previously unreleased collection of songs with the Cardinals, dubbed III/IV and detailed here, as well as the long-awaited Blackhole solo record dating back to circa ‘05, for an imminent (cross your fingers) release, Adams is currently recording two brand new albums, one in Los Angeles and the other in New York City. If you’re counting, that’s at least 4 new releases on the way.

And if that hasn’t whetted your appetite, brace yourself for today’s delectable details (via Rawkblog):

On recording a “new solo album” in L.A.:

This is the one I have been working on that is so far written on my old acoustic and I plan to keep these recordings simple (with some stark drums/bass/piano in there)…  I am dubbing this the “west coast” sessions…

Meanwhile, on the opposite coast:

…in two weeks I am off to NYC to record part two of the crazy NYC sessions which started as a “Cold Roses evil twin” minus the noodling vibe but now sound like some weird extension of Love is Hell. Where there was excessive jamming (which I was shit at) there are now cool chord passages and feedback and neat rhodes organ fills.

Also, Ryan is loving Laura Marling’s new record as much as we are. Happy Monday!
