Beck, The Cure’s Robert Smith, More On John Martyn Tribute Album

We’ve known about a contribution by the Cure’s Robert Smith to a new John Martyn tribute album since earlier this year, but now details about 21 more artists to interpret songs by the late, great British singer-songwriter, as well as their chosen tracks, have emerged. In addition to Smith’s rendition of Martyn’s 1977 classic “Small Hours,” the as-yet-untitled release features newly recorded covers by Lisa Hannigan, Beth Orton, Devendra Banhart, Beck, Vashti Bunyan, the Swell Season, Vetiver, Blind Boys of Alabama, and many more.

According to official site johnmartyn.com, more details (and possibly artists) will be revealed as the project progresses. Meanwhile, Martyn’s final album, Willing To Work, which he nearly finished before his death at the age of 60 last January, is being mixed and completed by friends Gary Pollitt and Jim Tullio.
