Reznor/Cornell Twitter War Progresses/Regresses

When Trent Reznor started a beef with Chris Cornell on his Twitter by saying Cornell’s new album Scream is so bad it makes him feel embarrassed, it seemed unlikely that Cornell would respond. We at TwentyFourBit weren’t even sure it was newsworthy, but we couldn’t resist covering Reznor’s low blow. Well now that Rolling Stone has picked up the story and the debates have started, Cornell has taken to his Twitter for a classic cryptic tweet:

“What do you think Jesus would twitter?” Cornell wrote, referring to Reznor’s diss that ended with “Heard Chris Cornell’s record? Jesus.” Apparently the former Soundgarden singer wants to run with the whole Jesus analogy. He continued, “’Let he who is without sin cast the first stone’ or ‘Has anyone seen Judas? He was here a minute ago.’”

What started as simple (and possibly uncalled for) music criticism has led Chris Cornell into the melodramatic angst these guys built their career on in the 90s. Even the Judas/Jesus talk harkens back to Reznor’s “Hurt,” with the lyric “I wear my crown of sh*t.”

There was a tweet made by Trent Reznor last month that I think is both hilarious and relevant to his current squabble: “I’m trapped backstage in a tiny jail-cell of a room,” he tweeted. See that. Nothing like the teenage angst of a 43-year-old rock star. He’d rather tweet than give you control.
