Ethan Johns Preps Album Produced by Glyn Johns

When producer/drummer Ethan Johns (Ryan Adams, Ray LaMontagne, Laura Marling) unveiled live recordings of a few solo songs last fall, I was wishing/expecting this news would soon follow: “I’ve been writing for 20 years and I’ve been helping other artists make their records,” Johns said at the end of an interview with Ellen Sterling for HuffPo. “I found myself as of two months ago with a collection of songs that say what I want to say.”

As with his first solo record (which fell under the radar 20 years ago, as revealed in an interview with Tape Op that I can’t seem to uncover from this pile of back issues), Johns’ famous father, Glyn, will produce his forthcoming effort. “I have more respect for him as a record-maker than for anybody else,” Johns told Sterling. “He is the most extraordinary, ethical record-maker. He’s the most rock ‘n’ roll guy I’ve ever met.”

The elder Johns recorded music with the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Who, Zeppelin, and countless more, so it’s safe to say his son’s songs are in good hands. I, for one, can’t wait to hear what this epic father-son team have cooked up in the studio.
