Being that I can enjoy their notable soundtracks without enduring a second of the Twilight franchise, the only reasonable impetus to actually view one of these teen vampire romantic flicks (that I’ve come across so far) is that Bauhaus singer Peter Murphy is set to make a cameo in the forthcoming third film, Eclipse.

We knew that Murphy is playing “an old Spanish, sort of unrelated vampire” in the movie, and even dressed up the post with an old press photo of the goth singer donning green-tinted contact lenses, but here’s our (possibly last) update: Murphy actually masks his irises in red for the role as… drum roll, please… The Cold One. Enjoy a behind-the-scenes photo (via his Facebook page) above.

At an undisclosed, intimate location amid New York’s Catskill Mountains, Peter Murphy and friends Dresden Dolls drummer Brian Viglione, guitarist John Andrew, violinist Emilio China, and other guests will play “bare-boned, crackling, sparked performances of [Murphy’s] solo classics, new album songs and never before performed Bauhaus songs” for all those with an Internet connection to enjoy next Thursday (Feb 11).

The event will mark the first episode in the Bauhaus frontman’s new “Secret Bee Series,” a run of exclusive live webcasts, featuring a changing lineup of guest musicians. (Perhaps Murphy will fly his buddy Trent Reznor out to this mysterious Upstate New York studio.)

Episode 1 of the “Secret Bee Series” costs $24.95 for the live show, plus 10 hours of on demand viewing. So it isn’t cheap, but hey, it should be a better show than Murphy’s cameo in the next Twilight franchise film.

Now that the New Moon soundtrack has been leaked, officially released, and reviewed, hype has already begun for Eclipse, the next film in the Twilight saga. No talk of the soundtrack yet, thank god, but the musical world will likely take notice of a cameo by a certain Godfather of Goth in the upcoming vampire teen drama.

“[Bauhaus’ Peter Murphy] plays a vampire in a flashback sequence,” Twilight actor Billy Burke revealed to MTV. “I didn’t get to see any of it, but all reports from the director David Slade, and everyone around say he just kicked ass.”

Murphy, who plays “an old Spanish, sort of unrelated vampire” in the flashback, joined Trent Reznor onstage recently for a stop on Nine Inch Nails’ “Wave Goodbye” tour in NYC. Perhaps now that Trent has some free time on his hands, his former collaborator will pull him into the film franchise. I mean, Trent is already dabbling in television work.

Don Henley is suing a Republican for allegedly using “The Boys of Summer” and “All She Wants to Do Is Dance” without permission on YouTube videos for his campaign to replace California Sen. Barbara Boxer in the U.S. Senate. The Daily Swarm has a nice roundup about this latest spat between the GOP and a famous folk rocker.

Bauhaus’ Peter Murphy covered John Lennon’s “Instant Karma” for a Chase Bank commercial. Prefix got the scoop.

When Krist Novoselic said recently that they’ve run out of unreleased Nirvana audio, but have plenty of video, he wasn’t kidding. Their next posthumous release will be Life Takes No Prisoners, a DVD of Nirvana’s 1992 performance at the Reading Festival. NME says it includes a cover of Journey’s “More Than A Feeling.” Can’t they just Hulu this stuff?

Agyness Deyn might be the new Winona Ryder. There was some Coachella drama involving the supermodel and her rotating cast of rock star boyfriends, according to the Mirror.

Billy Corgan is asking his fans if they want to pay $40 for 60 “exclusive web-video and photographs” from the studio “posted in a less-than-24-hour consistency.” It’s like Twitter, only 100% more expensive.
