Here’s an intriguing collaborative track that I should’ve seen coming: Kathleen Hanna, the great riot grrrl frontwoman, Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz, her husband/member of a certain rap trio du jour, and Peaches have teamed up for a cut off a forthcoming tribute to the Runaways. In addition to tracks performed by the Dandy Warhols and 34 other artists, Hanna & Co. recorded a cover of the ’70s all-girl rock band’s “Dead End Justice” on Main Man Records’ double-disc covers LP Take It or Leave It - A Tribute to the Queens of Noise: The Runaways.

As for why this promising cut doesn’t come completely out of the blue, last March, Hanna posted a raving review of director Floria Sigismondi’s Runaways biopic’s Joan Jett-portraying star:

Kristen Stewart seriously deserves an academy award for her performance as Joan Jett. Not to brag, but I know Joan and was really worried she would be portrayed as a boring tomboy in the sick new tradition of “girls kick ass” flicks, but she wasn’t. Stewart portrayed her as a sexy, complicated punk who, quite simply was born to be onstage.

Stream: Beastie Boys - Hot Sauce Committee Part 2

We’ve heard the opening track and a few other promising cuts off the Beastie Boys’ latest LP, and now the full album is hear to preview uncensored, in full, and for free. While you could give the funky set a listen via a webcasted boombox operated by someone in a gorilla suit in the middle of Madison Square Garden, I’d opt for the official Soundcloud above.

Stream: New Beastie Boys - “Say It”

In response to another leak from their forthcoming LP, Hot Sauce Committee, Part 2, the Beastie Boys dropped (read: uploaded) our second official taste from the record: “Say It,” in which the hip-hop veterans turn that old-school, crunchy production we heard on “Make Some Noise” up to eleven for perhaps their most distorted jam to date. Hear the boys/40-somethings staying true to their punk roots above.

(Not a bad way to cap off the week that brought us their truly epic new music video/film.)

We’ve seen the epic cast list, trailer, and a music video spin-off, but at last the wait is over for a glimpse at director/rapper Adam “MCA” Yauch’s star-studded short film Fight For Your Right Revisited, a sequel of sorts to the Beastie Boys’ 1986 canonized video for “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!).” Premiering late last night on Comedy Central was the full, uncensored short starring actors ranging from Funny or Die regulars like Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, and Jack Black to Oscar winner Susan Sarandon, to Lord of the Rings actors Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom, to Arrested Development’s Will Arnett and David Cross. You can order an HD copy of the film along with the Beastie Boys’ forthcoming LP here, and, thanks to the Audio Perv, last night’s premiere is streaming in three parts below.

*Update: 107.7 The End have posted a version of the video for streaming, as the previous clips were removed:

Trailer: Beastie Boys’ Fight For Your Right Revisited

Less than a day after the Beastie Boys dropped an excellent first single off their forthcoming LP, Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2, the official trailer for Adam “MCA” Yauch’s sequel to their classic 1986 video for “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)”, dubbed Fight For Your Right Revisited, has arrived. Catch a sneak peek of the epic cast, which includes Will Ferrell (with cowbell), Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Seth Rogen, Jack Black, Jason Schwartzman, and many more, in action above. You can also pre-order their new album in a bundle that includes an HD download of the film here.

“My rhymes age like wine as I get older,” raps Mike D, 45, on the brand new Beastie Boys track he posted to the iconic hip-hop trio’s official site this afternoon. “I’m getting bolder, competition is waning.” As said rhymes and the single’s title, “Make Some Noise,” boast, MCA, Ad-Rock, and Mike D are aiming to reclaim the spotlight in the uber-competitive genre; a goal this tight, analog-crunchy cut proves is well within their means. The full LP, Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2, is due out May 3 — complete with guest performances by Nas (his collaboration can be heard here) and Santigold. In the meantime, get ready and “Make Some Noise” here or below:

One promo still aside, the only info available so far on Adam “MCA” Yauch’s remake of the Beastie Boys’ 1986 “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)” video was the following intriguing description:

After the boys leave the party… Cast: Elijah Wood, Danny McBride, Seth Rogen, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Jack Black

While that teaser cast makes Fight For Your Right Revisited sound epic enough as is, it turns out that they’re just getting started: Hidden in plain view on IMDB since November is what appears to be the full cast list, which includes… drumroll please… Orlando Bloom, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Kirsten Dunst, Jason Schwartzman, Steve Buscemi, Ted Danson, Rainn Wilson, Will Arnett, Chloë Sevigny, and many more. Seriously, check out the full list here or below.

Hidden in Sundance’s recent announcement of short films to screen at the Park City, Utah film festival in January was one intriguing (and possibly hilarious) project: Fight For Your Right Revisited, a short written and directed by Beastie Boy Adam “MCA” Yauch, which, as Vulture points out, boasts the following description:

After the boys leave the party… Cast: Elijah Wood, Danny McBride, Seth Rogen, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Jack Black.

Beastie Boy Adam “MCA” Yauch’s new DVD distribution/subscription service, Oscilloscope, has picked up the rights to release Where the Wild Things Are director Spike Jonze’s and Lance Bangs’ Tell Them Anything You Want: A Portrait Of Maurice Sendak, a documentary about the famed writer/illustrator, which previously aired on HBO and is now set for DVD release on March 2 (the same day that Wild Things comes out), reports Screen Daily.

“Maurice Sendak and the Beastie Boys are two major influences in my life,” said Jonze, who directed classic Beasties videos for “Root Down” and “Sabotage,” “so it’s perfect to be doing this documentary about Maurice with Yauch. It’s one of those full circle-circle things.”

In other Spike Jonze and music news, check out our previous post about Nick Zinner, Flea, and ASKA contributing music to his new short film, a robot love story called I’m Here, here.
