Deth Red Sabaoth, Danzig’s ninth studio album and first full-length in six years, is set for a June 22 release, but you won’t have to wait that long for a taste of what this punk/metal god has put to tape. Produced by Glenn Danzig himself, the 11-track LP is preceded by first single “On A Wicked Night,” a devilishly subdued acoustic blues tune that transforms (à la his recent duet with Melissa Auf der Maur) into the kind of inimitable rock anthem the former Misfits and Samhain singer has been deliciously assaulting us with for years.
The full Deth Red Sabaoth tracklist and stream of “On A Wicked Night” are below. And if you like what you hear, there are 666 copies of the $66.66 Limited Deluxe Edition box set available for pre-order, which might even be worth it for the epic album packaging alone.

Care to check out the “first and only duet of Glenn Danzig’s entire career”? Sure, that comes somewhat out of the blue following Monsters of Folk and Crowded House posts, but Danzig has not only been an influence on many of the artists we stalk around here (Ryan Adams, Will Oldham, etc.), he’s also one of the most important rock singers still kicking, in my book.
Melissa Auf der Maur’s new record, Out Of Our Minds, aka OOOM, was released digitally today and, to our delight, she dropped one of those brilliant Topspin widgets for all to listen to the album before purchase.
The duet, “Father’s Grave,” is a perfect match for the pair, as the lyrics consist of a conversation between a gravedigger (Danzig) and a grieving woman (Auf der Maur) whose father recently passed away. Stream the song below, as well as the entire album:
As we mentioned last month, former Hole bassist, Smashing Pumpkins collaborator, and current MAdM leader Melissa Auf der Maur has a brand new LP on the way called Out Of Our Mind, aka OOOM. The part that really blew my mind, however, is that Auf der Maur landed “the first and only duet of Glenn Danzig’s entire career” for the song “Father’s Grave,” which we’ll finally get to hear either on March 30 via iTunes or on the current physical release date of April 6 (both were pushed back since our original post).
Former Hole bassist, Smashing Pumpkins collaborator, and current MAdM leader Melissa Auf der Maur just made throngs of Danzig fans very jealous, as Noisecreep reports that the living rock legend that is Glenn Danzig agreed to sing with her on the song “Father’s Grave,” from her forthcoming album, Out Of Our Mind (due out on March 23).
“I wish I had a flag to wave this, or could wave this on my forehead every day, but this is the first and only duet of Glenn Danzig’s entire career,” Auf der Maur declared. “I’m the only woman — or man — who has been graced with his presence on their record.”
Don’t worry, we’ll wave that flag for you! As it turns out, Auf der Maur spent years fantasizing about collaborating with the Misfits founder (haven’t we all?), and didn’t expect to get a response to her request for Danzig to record the vocal part to a fictional gravedigger on her new song. But then the phone rang: “Melissa, it’s Danzig. I really liked your song.” And the rest is history.
Now that the summer’s almost over, I’m noticing a handful of bands and musicians have started scrambling to get their long-rumored books, DVDs, and whatnots shrink-wrapped and ready for the holiday shopping season. Sure, the Beatles appear to be making a go at ending the recession in one fell swoop, but other notable merch from the likes of Tom Waits, Anton Corbijn, Bob Dylan, and now Glenn Danzig will also be hitting the shelves this fall.
Danzig’s official site finally announced yesterday an upcoming release of the long-awaited “Danzig Lyric Book,” which features illustrations by longtime cohort and album cover artist Simon Bisley. Check out the cover above or click here for Bisley’s illustration to the song “When Death Had No Name.” Haven’t seen the actual book yet, but it looks to me like a kind of William Blake meets Hot Topic deal.
The book will drop on an undisclosed date in December ’09 at “Indy Record Stores,” select comic shops, and online. One can only hope that Danzig will preview his new evil coffee table book via shirtless YouTube again.
You can’t really tell how surprisingly short Danzig is in that hilarious video, but if you want to check out his stature in person, catch a rare live performance, and get a taste of Danzig’s “awesome supernatural powers,” he also confirmed a festival date on November 8th at the Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, Texas.
Between the book, festival gig, album in progress, and Ryan Adams shout-outs, it looks like we’ve got a big Danzig comeback on the way.
