Watch: Black Francis-Scored 1920 Film, ‘The Golem’

On November 16, Pixies frontman Frank Black, aka Black Francis, will self-release parts of his original score to director Paul Wegener’s 1920 German silent film Der Golem as an 18-track “rock opera” dubbed The Golem Rock Album. In the meantime, Black has posted the entire feature-length film and score on Vimeo, shown above.

In other Pixies news, the band have followed up their free live EP from last fall by giving away yet another live recording: Their epic 20-song set from the 2004 Coachella festival. You can download that show for free here.


Sure, Yoko Ono with Sean Lennon and Mark Ronson on Fallon was interesting (we only lasted 30 seconds before flipping channels), Tegan and Sara’s “Hell” sounded pretty good on Conan, and Ghostface Killah’s slot on Kimmel was—as the Awl put it—”blessedly free of autotune,” but here are a few of our favorite late night musical performances from the week:

Pixies on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien - “Here Comes Your Man”

It’s no surprise that the Pixies, who just dropped a free live Doolittle EP, while on their Doolittle Tour, where they’re playing the entire Doolittle album, opted to play this classic track from Doolittle on Conan. Some songs are just so well-written that they kill every freakin’ time. Watch it here or below:

While the Pixies were onstage in LA last night, they dropped a little surprise for Twitter and Facebook followers that were likely wishing they were at the show (via SUE):

“FREE Doolittle Live EP!” the Twitter announcement reads. “Four tracks taken from the Oct. 16 Paris gig, the last stop on the European leg of the…[tour].”
