Rare David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails Footage Surfaces
Back in 1995, David Bowie hit the road in support of his recently released concept album, Outside, bringing along a band whose The Downward Spiral was spinning in virtually every modern rock fan’s CD player at the time to co-headline dates on the U.S. leg: Nine Inch Nails. As proof that Trent Reznor and Co. weren’t there to simply open for Bowie (or perhaps help showcase his new experimental songs for a younger audience), the beginning of Bowie’s set and end of NIN’s involved a seamless — and stunning — collaboration between the two acts. (Their stop in Hartford, CT that year is among my most regretted missed concert opportunities.)
Over the weekend, the NIN Hotline (via Slicing Up Eyeballs) made an amazing discovery: film editor David Williams uploaded 4 pro-shot videos of the Bowie-NIN collaboration to Vimeo earlier this summer, complete with stereo soundboard audio. Note the brilliantly reimagined guitar part by Reeves Gabrels as you watch Reznor, Bowie, and friends perform “Hurt” below (3 more videos are over at SUE as part of their excellent “Vintage Video” series):

How To Destroy Angels Prep LP for Early 2011
It has only been a month since Trent Reznor’s first post-Nine Inch Nails band was cryptically revealed, but How To Destroy Angels have already dropped numerous videos, a Wired iPad app, remix-ready multitracks, and, of course, a free self-titled EP. Well, they’re just getting started: Reznor confirmed today that the trio have a full-length album in the works.
In a question/answer session on Tumblr, Reznor dropped the news: “We are working on a full-length release now. We hope to have it released Q1 2011.” And in response to a subsequent question regarding the EP he made with wife Mariqueen Maandig and longtime co-conspirator Atticus Ross, Reznor elaborated on why they opted to release an initial 6-track collection:

Listen: How To Destroy Angels - The Believers
We’ve officially heard half of Trent Reznor, Mariqueen Maandig, and Atticus Ross’ How To Destroy Angels debut EP today, as the fifth track, “The Believers,” just hit the Web. Remember that marimba we mentioned Reznor was auctioning off? Per a detailed breakdown of the recording process from Wired, the African percussion instrument makes an appearance on this track:
Reznor and Ross spent two days recording ancillary melodies on a Moog Minimoog Voyager, an out-of-tune African marimba, a ukulele, and other instruments. “It seemed like a good collision of things, a nice blend of organic and electronic,” Reznor says. They extracted and mixed in the best parts.
Pre-order the EP here and stream “The Believers” here (thanks, Dennis!) or below:

New Nine Inch Nails - “Theme For Tetsuo: The Bullet Man”
You may want to set aside those How To Destroy Angels remixes for a moment because (per our buddy Jarrett) a new song from Trent Reznor’s other project, um… Nine Inch Nails, just hit the Internets. As Some Kind of Awesome reports, Reznor contributed the track to director Shinya Tsukamoto’s Japanese language film “Tetsuo: The Bullet Man” to be played over the closing credits. Despite the fact that the film was completed and showcased at film festivals last year (making Reznor’s February ‘10 contribution likely ineligible for Oscar contention), the epic instrumental composition is currently being dubbed as a theme song for the film.
Stream “Theme For Tetsuo: The Bullet Man” here or below, and watch the trailer for the revenge action flick as well:

Trent Reznor Uploads How To Destroy Angels Multitracks
Their full EP has yet to drop in completely, but Trent Reznor, Mariqueen Maandig, and Atticus Ross, aka How To Destroy Angels, are offering the multitrack files of the opening/closing tracks off their debut release for fans to download, remix, and manipulate at will. (Thanks for the tip, Jarrett!)
The best part of Reznor’s (completely free) remix community is that the files/stems can be easily loaded into Apple’s Garageband, making it equally fun for professional and novice remixers alike. Simply click here, login or register, click “Mix,” and you’re off and running.
For more instructions, check out their official Facebook page, but otherwise: enjoy.
How To Destroy Angels EP Tracklist (Rumored)
Though we’ve already taken part in some speculation about the cryptic How To Destroy Angels project, which is totally Trent Reznor and his wife, Mariqueen Maandig, let’s take it to another level… Originating from Last.fm, a leak of the 6-song EP’s supposed tracklist has hit the Web. Though these track titles could very well be tentative (demo names, burned CDR description fillers, etc.), here’s what we have from at least one possible copy of the new self-titled record:
