Now that the New Moon soundtrack has been leaked, officially released, and reviewed, hype has already begun for Eclipse, the next film in the Twilight saga. No talk of the soundtrack yet, thank god, but the musical world will likely take notice of a cameo by a certain Godfather of Goth in the upcoming vampire teen drama.

“[Bauhaus’ Peter Murphy] plays a vampire in a flashback sequence,” Twilight actor Billy Burke revealed to MTV. “I didn’t get to see any of it, but all reports from the director David Slade, and everyone around say he just kicked ass.”

Murphy, who plays “an old Spanish, sort of unrelated vampire” in the flashback, joined Trent Reznor onstage recently for a stop on Nine Inch Nails’ “Wave Goodbye” tour in NYC. Perhaps now that Trent has some free time on his hands, his former collaborator will pull him into the film franchise. I mean, Trent is already dabbling in television work.

I swear I’m not following the director of the 2nd installment of the Twilight series around or anything, but the guy keeps talking about Radiohead, so whatevs. We previously reported that New Moon director Chris Weitz namedropped Thom Yorke recently as an artist interested in contributing music to his forthcoming vampire romance flick and, as P4K’s Tom Breihan noted, this looks suspiciously similar to when McG falsely implied Yorke was making music for Terminator Salvation. Well, now Weitz is dropping names again, but this time he sounds a bit more confident.

“There are 450 visual effects shots to complete, in addition to the score and the movie’s soundtrack, which [Weitz] says will feature songs from Radiohead, Muse and Band of Skulls, among others,” LA Times’ Gina McIntyre wrote in a behind-the-scenes piece on New Moon.

So it’s safe to say that you will be hearing the voice of Thom Yorke in this movie, but whether it’s a new solo song (such as “The Present Tense” from this weekend’s Latitude festival) or not, remains to be seen or heard.

Numerous rumors about Thom Yorke’s possible involvement in scoring various films or contributing to a soundtrack have been floating around recently and none have turned out to be true. This one, however, has now been confirmed by the film’s director: Radiohead’s frontman is interested in supplying music to New Moon, the second film in the blockbuster Twilight saga.

“Fortunately, I’m not at the stage where I have to turn anybody down yet, because everything is still kind of up in the air, but I am surprised at some of the bands that have said they’re interested,” director Chris Weitz told Rotten Tomatoes. “It’s kind of great. The criterion will still always be what’s right for the movie at that given moment, but Thom Yorke is interested; we might, if we’re very lucky, get Kings of Leon to do something… it’s exciting to be able to have access to this kind of talent.”

This isn’t the first time Yorke has given the Twilight series the okay; Radiohead’s “15 Step” played during the closing credits of the first film. Now if Yorke decides to entertain Daniel Radcliffe’s suggestion that Radiohead could score all the Harry Potter films, there could be a big change in demographics at the band’s next concert tour.
