In which the Swedish indie trio get your pulse racing with their frantic 98-second single, “Breaker Breaker”, off the forthcoming Gimme Some LP. (Been blasting the Ramones much lately, boys?) Grab the MP3 in exchange for an email address here, via Some Velvet Blog.

Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally capped off their month of prominent placements on a host of top-2010 lists tonight with a much-deserved victory lap on Conan O’Brien’s TBS show tonight, performing a gorgeous, hypnotic take (as always) on Teen Dream cut “10 Mile Stereo.”
“Do you do your own taxidermy?” David Letterman joked before introducing Joanna Newsom last night, saying that the harpist/singer-songwriter’s custom-decorated stage was “like Sarah Palin’s den,” featuring a pink rug, pink-draped monitors, and two stuffed peacocks. Join Newsom in her Late Show parlor above for Billy Bragg’s favorite Have One On Me cut, “On A Good Day.” (Via Audio Perv)
As we mentioned they would, MGMT performed tonight on Saturday Night Live, where Andrew VanWyngarden, Ben Goldwasser, and friends broke out their new non-single, “Flash Delirium,” and “Brian Eno” jam in celebration of their latest record, Congratulations, which snagged the #2 spot on the charts this week.
The Roots’ ?uestlove dropped some choice tweets during the episode, including an excellent observation about MGMT’s new record: “Why do I get the feeling this album is about to be their Satanic Majesties Request?” Also: “*gives MGMT a pass for the Portsmouth Sinfoniaesque Brian Eno homage at the end of their second song.” Was Questo unaware of the song’s title? If not, well played, sir.

The Gorillaz and Bobby Womack not only performed “Stylo,” from Plastic Beach on the Colbert Report tonight, they also sat down for a funny Q&A with our favorite satirist of cable news political pundits. Hot on the heels of a triumphant Coachella set, Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s animated band brilliantly came to life on national television for this rendition of their latest single — which perhaps even exceeded the original studio version in terms of live energy at least. It’s too bad Mos Def wasn’t able to join the crew in person, but now we’re just getting greedy…

After attending the Dead Weather’s brilliant show at the Fillmore in San Francisco Friday night, rock withdrawal ran high all weekend. Until late last night, that is, when Jack White, Alison Mosshart, and the boys performed almost the exact same set at Coachella, which was streamed live on the web.
I had a feeling someone would rip the live stream, as it is beautifully shot/recorded, and sure enough, the series of YouTubes is hosting a plethora of clips. Though I won’t say that you’re getting the full impact of the DW’s live low-end frequency assault here, this is a great way to check out some new tunes, covers, and rearranged songs from their debut, Horehound, save for driving out to a crowded desert.

Well, one of our favorite rumors of the week appears to be true: Ontario-born icon Neil Young is set to perform tonight (2/28) at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games closing ceremony in Vancouver, B.C. Details are scant at this time, but according to Young’s official site (via Strangers Almanac and Thrasher’s Wheat), Canada’s beloved singer-songwriter will take the stage to sing out this year’s Olympics.
Who knows what other surprises Vancouver has in store for tonight’s festivities (Leonard Cohen?), but this revelation sure guarantees that I’ll be tuning in.
Closing ceremonies will air live tonight at 8:30 EST on NBC, and we will update this post when/if video becomes available
*Update: As you may have heard, Neil’s song of choice was “Long May You Run.” Decent quality video for an encore viewing has yet to hit the web, but we’re still looking…
**Finally, we have video of the performance here.
