Karen O Snags Grammy Nod After Miley Cyrus is Disqualified

There I was thinking last year’s Thom Yorke dissing Miley and Kanye hubbub was a good— albeit pointless—time gone by, but now Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O has stolen that very Disney-ordained dressing room which Yorke refused to visit. In a post on his collaborative “We Love You So” blog, Where the Wild Things Are director Spike Jonze forwarded an email from the soundtrack’s record label to the Internets:

“In an unexpected twist, one of the announced Grammy candidates for Best Song written for a Soundtrack has been disqualified after the fact (Miley Cyris in fact),” Interscope/Geffen/A&M dude Matt LaMotte wrote. “The nomination then goes to the song with the next-highest initial vote count, which is Karen O and the Kids’ ‘All is Love’.” They’re “working on a press release now,” LaMotte adds.

Sorry man, but the word’s already out. Congrats, Karen O and the Kids!

Moop Jaw Prep Christian Joy Documentary, Peaches Video

Even if you’ve never heard her name—yet you still pick up a glossy rock mag every so often—you’ve seen her work. Christian Joy, designer for Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O (and recently of the Klaxons), is now the subject of an upcoming documentary all about the spandex-loving Queen of Rock Sewing Machine. Well, she’s at least a runner-up for the regal position.

The documentary was shot by Rhett Wade-Ferrell of artist collective Moop Jaw; other members of the group are Warran Wright, Antuong Nguyen, and Ryan Frazer. Wade-Ferrell tells Pedestrian.tv that the collective is also “developing a collaboration with Christian Joy for a series of art films in which she will do all of the art direction so its going to be pretty mental to see her costume ideas translate into an entire world.”

Watch Karen O & Spike Jonze: Making the Where the Wild Things Are Soundtrack

Karen O’s über-hyped Where the Wild Things Are soundtrack is already available to be streamed in full, but that doesn’t mean we’re done freaking out over the project, which includes Dead Weather members Dean Fertita, Jack “Little Jack” Lawrence, and fellow Yeah Yeah Yeahs members Nick Zinner and Brian Chase.

In a fun behind-the-scenes video, which just dropped, Jonze and O give a glimpse into the making of the project, billed as Karen O And The Kids. The soundtrack was highly inspired by the Langley Schools Music Project, a critically acclaimed album of David Bowie, Beach Boys, Fleetwood Mac, and other covers recorded by Canadian school children.

Watch below or here, as Jonze and O reject the training of an American Idol-esque voice coach in favor of having fun with their young collaborators and throwing music scores around — literally:
