Gorillaz have taken this year’s most popular holiday gift-gadget and created an entire album with the Apple tablet… for free: Now downloading (for fan clubbers) and streaming (for everyone) is The Fall, a 15-track LP “recorded between Montreal and Vancouver over 32 days on the Gorillaz North American Tour” with only the iPad and a handful of synthesizers. All tracks are credited solely to the band, save for one track, “Bobby In Phoenix,” which was co-written by the great Plastic Beach guest Bobby Womack.

Check out the full details — including all of the 20 iPad apps used to record The Fall — and stream/download the record over on their site now. The tracklist is below.

The Fall singer Mark E Smith wasn’t going to let another broken hip keep him off the stage last night. He performed a full set at London’s Koko club in a wheelchair only a few weeks after he broke his hip for the second time in a fall (no pun intended).

As Mog’s Charley Rogulewski pointed out, when Smith broke his hip back in 2004, he “refused to cancel gigs on a forthcoming tour promoting The Real New Fall EP, opting for the wheelchair solution, but the pain sidelined him anyway.”

Taking the stage in a wheelchair after your hip breaks for the second time is pretty punk rock, we think. Almost as cool as M.I.A.’s due date Grammy performance.
