Jack White´s Third Man Records to Release Carl Sagan Remix "A Glorious Dawn" on Vinyl
Ready for another unusual surprise from Jack White and company? Third Man Records have announced the upcoming 7-inch vinyl release of “A Glorious Dawn,” an Auto-Tuned remix of Carl Sagan’s dialogue from his “Cosmos” television series; the remix, which features Stephen Hawking, first gained notoriety after composer John Boswell uploaded it to YouTube earlier this fall.
“The release is timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of Sagan’s birth,” Third Man’s news bulletin says. “Also happening that day is a reception in United States’ Congress with speeches by senators, NASA officials and assorted scientists, all hosted by the Planetary Society, which was co-founded by Sagan.”

Jack White´s Third Man Records to Open Pop-Up Shop for Halloween Weekend in London
Jack White’s “Third Man Records and Novelties” pop-up stores have made stops in New York City and Los Angeles so far, but the Jack White circus had yet to venture across the Atlantic… until now.
On Oct. 30 and 31, the Shoreditch Church in East London will be converted into one of White’s trademark yellow, white, and black-themed stores, selling “all Third Man releases and miscellany from The Dead Weather, The White Stripes, and The Raconteurs to all Third Man 45s, T-shirts and loads of rare and collectible items,” an announcement reads (via their email list). “We’ll also have a limited run of exclusive merchandise made specifically for this London location, so make sure you come down early!”

Jack White Brings Traveling Third Man Circus to LA
Jack White’s second pop-up Third Man Records vinyl retail shop location and dates have been revealed by LA Times’ Randy Lewis, and, once again, the Dead Weather just happen to be in town for a couple shows on the same dates. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of next week, the Third Man Records and Novelties West store will be selling various merchandise from the Third Man roster (White Stripes, Dex Romweber, Raconteurs, etc.).
Last time they did this, Matt Pinfield even put in a couple hours as a guest clerk, so I wonder who might show up for the LA branch. If you’re in that area right now, you may want to set up camp downtown at 448 S. Main St. asap, ‘cause Jack’s whole traveling circus should be causing quite a stir.
Jack White to Reissue Entire White Stripes Catalogue
Radiohead’s manager is taking a more digital direction, but Jack White has no cell phone, hates Pro Tools, and has started his own analog revolution. While I was digging around at the new Third Man Records vinyl subscription service for Friday’s post, I noticed that Jack seems to be including the White Stripes in his new Nashville-based project. At first it seemed that contractual obligations could prevent him from taking free reign over the White Stripes catalogue, but then I remembered those extremely limited singles he put out in the early, pre-contract, days (“Lord, Send Me An Angel,” “Jolene,” “Let’s Shake Hands,” “Look Me Over Closely,” etc.). Well, my suspicions have been confirmed and we’ve got big news for fans of early White Stripes:
Jack White leaked more of his ambitious plans for Third Man Records to the Edmonton Sun’s Jane Stevenson over the weekend. “I’m re-releasing every record I’ve ever been a part of,” White said. “So I’m collecting all the old ones and getting them back on our shelf. If there’s [a] kid in Nunavut who wants that 45, I want him to be able to get it, if he wants it. I don’t like out-of-print records. I don’t think that’s fair.” I’m not sure if she is referring to the above statement, but Stevenson also specified that White’s effort would include “a massive reissue of The White Stripes’ catalogue on vinyl.”
All of the early White Stripes singles have been available on the Internet as low-quality bootleg MP3s, but original hand painted copies of Jack’s early vinyl are very rare and go for big bucks on eBay (The Go and The Upholsterers might enjoy a return to the spotlight as well). If Jack White can actually pull off this massive reissue project, the folks at the Marlene Dietrich estate might be getting some nice royalty checks and the Candy Cane Children of Nunavut will be very happy.
Jack White Unveils Third Man Subscription Service
Jack White has followed in Prince’s footsteps, unveiling a subscription service to exclusive videos, streaming concerts, pre-sale tickets, podcasts, vinyl, and other secret future benefits from the Third Man Records roster. What’s more, White also sort of cribbed the term for Prince’s mysterious archives, naming his new venture “The Vault.”
Here’s how it breaks down: For $7 a month, you get the videos, pre-sales, pay per view live concerts, and a bunch of online stuff from the artists on Third Man Records, including the Dead Weather, Raconteurs, White Stripes, Dex Romweber, and more. The second “platinum membership” option is really what makes this a Jack White project: For $20 a month (3 month minimum), you get all of the above features plus one limited 12” LP, one 7” single, and a t-shirt every quarter.
In a funny twist, the Q&A/sales pitch basically admits that an advantage to choosing the latter option is that your exclusive vinyl “would at least be an investment plan far more reliable than Wall Street” via Ebay, etc.
It looks like Radiohead, Trent Reznor, and Prince have a new famous member for their “We ‘Get’ The Internet” club.
Jack White to Drop Single by Wife, Karen Elson?
Jack White’s new Nashville-based Third Man Records vinyl shop and hit factory sure has hit the ground running. First, The Dead Weather put out a 7” single and announced their full-length debut Horehound is due in mid-July. Then Jack’s collaboration with Dexter Romweber, set to drop later this month, was revealed in interviews. Now Jack is offering two solo projects from NYC’s The Citizens Band: Rachelle Garniez and Mildred and the Mice. The latter’s frontwoman is highly rumored to be Jack’s wife, model Karen Elson.
“The mysterious goth milquetoast ‘mildred’ appeared before jack white at a hardware store In Kentucky,” a description reads on Third Man’s distributor’s site, followed by more of Jack’s obvious storytelling:
She had no demo to give, nor guitar with her, so instead she sang her song “I like my mice (dead)” at the top of her lungs in front of several hardware store customers before quickly walking out Of the store in shy earnest… She hails from the mammoth cave area, but hasn’t given the staff an age, or current address! (don’t worry we’ll be holding her royalty checks here for her.) In fact her mother dropped her off at third man studio for the single session and waited patiently In a winnebago outside the studio until mildred was done recording. Mildred showed up with a very Cool gretsch princess guitar but called it a “gitch”.
Elson (whom I can’t 100% confirm is Mildred, but for this rumor, I’ll bite) has performed in the cabaret troupe The Citizens Band for years with Rachelle Garniez, the singer/songwriter offering a 7” single from Third Man Records. According to Forte Music Distribution, Garniez’s “My House of Peace” will drop on May 25 along with Mildred and the Mice’s, “I Like My Mice (Dead)”/”Spiderbite.”
** Update: Third Man Records just sent their mailing list a link to their online store for pre-orders here. In addition to the above mentioned singles, The Dead Weather are also releasing “Treat Me Like Your Mother”/“You Just Can’t Win.”
Also, here’s the cover of Mildred and the Mice’s 45:
