New Yeah Yeah Yeahs Album Inspired by Disco, Donna Summer, and Joy Division

Lots of details about the forthcoming Yeah Yeah Yeahs album It’s Blitz! were released today, including the album cover (photo below), tracklist, and the album’s 1970s disco inspiration.

“When Karen orders, ‘No guitars for Nick!’ it makes you approach things in a different way,” guitarist/keyboardist Nick Zinner told Spin Magazine. Drummer Brian Chase said one of the album’s producers (either Dave Sitek or Nick Launay) wasn’t initially too happy with their new approach, saying “Nick, you’re the best guitarist we have in rock’n’roll right now and here you are, playing all these synths.”

Spin has an upcoming cover story on the band, but they did leak some information about the new sound, reporting that “It’s Blitz! was inspired by the ’70s disco collaborations between Italian producer Giorgio Moroder and R&B songstress Donna Summer, Joy Division, and, well, Karen O’s love of dancing.”
