Hours before the Rihanna/Chris Brown news broke, the biggest story of Grammy night was that Usher canceled all appearances and flew down to Brazil, where his wife, Tameka Foster, was having emergency complications from plastic surgery. A neurosurgeon from L.A.’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center also flew to Brazil and is reportedly aiding the local hospital in Tameka’s recovery.
AFP reports (via Yahoo! News) that Brazilian news sources claim Foster had suffered cardiac and respiratory arrest, before being put in an induced coma for 24 hours. G1 reports that the incident occurred while she was being anesthetized for a liposuction operation.
Usher’s publicist released a statement yesterday, saying Tameka Foster, 37, is “in stable condition after suffering complications from routine surgery in Brazil.” Usher has canceled all scheduled public appearances and the couple is still in Brazil.
