Alexa Chung, a British television presenter and girlfriend to Arctic Monkey Alex Turner, is hosting a new MTV show that is being billed as the successor to Carson Daly’s career-making hit TRL. The Guardian reports “The Alexa Chung Show” will be similar to TRL in that it will be filmed live with real-time interaction with viewers, but this time around they’ve partnered with Facebook and Twitter to engage their screaming fans.
“The show will air one hour a day,” MTV’s executive VP David Sirulnick said (via Huffington Post), “but for the other 23 hours we want viewers to be engaged with Alexa and what is on the show.” Chung’s probably too busy to actually tweet all day and night, as she’s a certified Williamsburg hipster these days, but I’m sure they can keep the 24-hour telethon going with ghost Twitterers.
MTV’s pretty desperate to increase viewership lately and TRL was always a surefire ratings hit, so it’s safe to say that Chung, who is already well-known in the UK, has crossed the pond in style.
